Ginger

On July 15, 2024, we said goodbye to Ginger. She was almost 16 years old. We knew something wasn’t right when she was staying close in the kitchen but not wanting to eat, which was very unlike her.

She was examined by our vet today and was found to be much sicker than she let on. Given her age and the fact we wouldn’t be able to administer meds, the vet suggested giving her peace was the kindest thing to do.

Ginger arrived as an unsocialized older teenager from a hoarding situation in Austin. Her health wasn’t good and she soon developed stomatitis, a painful inflammation of the mouth and gums. Since we could not safely administer medications, the only option was to have all her teeth removed. Despite our attempts at socializing her, she remained very skittish. Over the years, we’ve managed to sneak in the occasional receptive pet or scratch but in general, Ginger preferred to be admire her from afar. She was a gorgeous girl and so very loved.
